Addressing Equality within Staffordshire

The England and Wales Cricket Board has identified certain groups across the nation that are severely unrepresented in the cricketing world. Within Staffordshire we aim to offer the opportunity for all people interested in the game to enjoy and develop as individuals through cricket whether it is as a player, volunteer or official.

Women’s and Girls Cricket

As with all areas of the game the Staffordshire Cricket Board is looking to implement an infrastructure that delivers a high quality level of provision against a fully resourced and supported

Player Development Pathway.

Women’s and Girls cricket is now represented on the Management Board opening up a clearer process of communication to ensure resources are directed to areas of need whilst the coach and player development issues are addressed in a logical and sustainable manner.

ASDA Kwik Cricket

For the first time in Staffordshire there will be a school based competition giving hundreds of girls the opportunity to play cricket in a safe and enjoyable arena. As a result of this a player development programme has been designed to offer the opportunity for all girls to continue their long term development whilst offering the opportunity to play in a competitive environment.

Summer and Winter Development Programmes

The programmes will be used to develop confidence and experience by introducing girls to fun based cricket skills with the long term aim of introducing hard ball cricket. Each cricket development group will be running a six week programme of activity in the summer and twelve week programme through the winter. The player pathway, depicted below, is to be implemented by September 2009.

Representative Cricket

Staffordshire enter three teams into the national ECB competitions (u13, u15 & u17) with a development squad at the u 11 age group. The aforementioned summer and winter development programmes will ensure that talent is identified early whilst allowing late developers the opportunity to develop skills and achieve personal success at a level aligned to their ability and commitment.

Senior Women’s Cricket

The senior County squad relies on a strong county age group structure to become successful in the County Championship. The Staffordshire Cricket Board has committed funding for the development of a high quality player development programme managed by a minimum level three coach.
