Uttoxeter CC – A Brand New Start!

Uttoxeter Cricket Club are embarking on an exciting journey to take the club into the 21st Century following years of looking at the same old walls, and high quality 1970’s décor!  The use of Natwest CricketForce seemed a sensible option, and after a contingent led by 1st team captain, Jon Walmsley had been to a launch meeting and the project was born!

Projects were born in the following weeks and were the subject of various discussions between team members, usually involving the significant chore of going to the pub! In the end numerous projects were agreed to be considered, including full decoration of the club, new kitchen, toilets, bar (most important!) and also significant works to the playing area and artificial pitch.

Since the launch of Uttoxeter’s project in October significant progress has been made in securing raw materials including a full kitchen, replacement carpets and building materials, work is still on-going to secure even more, food and beer will be gratefully received!

Follow up work is continuing and a 15 page project plan painstakingly completed over a 5 hour meeting, has now been agreed with the Club’s Executive Committee, the final step in getting the project off the ground!

The enthusiasm of the club, and especially the project team comprising of Jon Walmsley, Dave Whitehead and Michael Skelham has been a joy to behold, and shows what can be done for free when everybody pulls together, and begs for help!

The project only commenced in October, and what has been achieved up to now is nothing short of a miracle. Plans are now being finalised for the days themselves, which are rapidly approaching, and some preparation works will be completed following the end of the darts season!

The hardest part of the project is yet to come, but with hard work and determination, not to mention Coffee and Red Stripe we are sure we will succeed in improving facilities for members new and old. The sight of new faces, mixing with existing members of the club will give everybody a lift, and help to secure the future of the club!

Further information will be updated if we survive the next couple of weeks, and be sure to keep your eye on the local press for updates and the story of the weekend!
