Staffordshire Women update

The team are raring to go ahead of the season

It’s been a busy winter period for the Senior Women’s team, with a number of changes happening both on and off the field.

After a long and successful period at the helm, Leigh Rees stood down from the Head Coach position at the end of last summer, and the Board have appointed Mark Shrehorn as his replacement.  Mark has been within the coaching network of Staffordshire Cricket for a few years in various positions, but in recent times has coached within Women’s & Girl’s Cricket at Regional and National levels.

After significant support and investment from the County Board, Mark will also be supported by Stu Baker (Coach), Alex Smith (Team Manager) and Sue Haynes (Scorer) for the oncoming season.  The squad have also been supplied with new training and playing kit by Duncan Fearnley, as well as the introduction of awarding county caps to individual players from 2018.  Also, Steph Butler has been appointed captain after returning to the county from representing Yorkshire in the County Championship and KSL.  She will have the job of leading a group of talented young cricketers, including those girls from Staffordshire’s successful girl’s county age group programme.

Mark and his squad, encourage as much support as possible at their matches this year and invite all cricket fans to come along and get involved, especially all female players from around our region, come and cheer on the girls!!
